MF 255 front end loader questions.

I recently bought a 255 with a bushhog 2400 QT endloader, seems to work fine but the hydraulics for it are just connected to the remotes and the lever for the remotes has to be held open with a piece of wire and i don't really like running them that way. I'm very familiar with the 255 tractors as i grew up farming with them and i seem to remember a way to attach a selector valve like this one ( https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Massey-Ferguson-255_Selector-Valve_VFD1104.html ) to the lift cover after removing the plate marked in yellow in the picture to get pressure and removing the pipe plug marked in red and using that as the return so i could use the lift pump for the 3pt hitch to run the loader instead of the remotes. my question is, am i thinking correctly? its been a while since i seen a loader on a 255 and can't remember how the hydraulics were hooked up.

I'd leave it as it is now, the three point pump has lower flow capacity than the auxiliary pump does. You will also lose use of the three point for blade work too if you connect to the three point system..

s there anyway of teeing off a hydrualic line before the spool valve for the remotes so I could use the auxiliary pump without wiring the remote lever forward? Thanks for your reply.

Hows the speed and power of the loader on aux? Is it tolerable?
I have a mf283 that im debating how to go about loader hyd. Thanks[list:6b831891bf][/list:u:6b831891bf]

speed and power seemed pretty good on the auxiliary, but I only ran it a little bit for the test drive at the dealer before I bought it and it's still to muddy at home to do any work with it yet so I'll know better when it drys up a little.

You may want to consider a valve like the one in the attached photo MF# 19833A92. I had this on a MF 175 with aux. power to operate an MF 235 loader. It permits use on the 3 point as well as the loader, although not simultaneously. I have since acquired an MF 236 loader that came with a front mounted pump, so no need for this valve now. It was adequate in performance but not as quick as the front pump. The loader is operated from this valve and the loader mounted two spool valve is not used. Since the 235 loader is a fixed mount, this was hard piped to the loader. If your loader is a Quick Mount disconnects would need to be added.

Do these tractors you guys are discussing only have one pump for 3 point lift or aux?

Doesnt my MF283 have a separate lift pump and and aux Pump?

So I can use aux for front loader and still use 3 pt

I suppose I would still need one of those special valves if I wanted to use a hyd tree puller attachment at the rear and front end loader

All the 255s I've been around have one main pump for the 3point and one aux, the aux pump being the bigger of the two. I believe your 283 is set up the same. I've been talking to some people over the last couple days and decided the best way set up the loader is to tee off the hydraulic line that's supplying pressure to the spool valve for the remotes. That way the loader is running off the bigger pump without having to use the remotes or tie the spool valve lever forward to feed the spool valve for the loader. This should work for your 283 also but I haven't tried it on my tractor yet.

If you have a loader valve with power
beyond feature this becomes easy not
necessarily cheap.
Redirect the supply to the remotes valve
to the loader valve and then the power
beyond line of loader valve routes back to
supply of the remotes valve. You can not
operate loader and remote at the same
instant but all functions individually
without tying levers.
I have this setup on a MF 180.
