MF 285 rims

I recently got an MF 285. I'm curious about the rear rims that are on it. Looks like what's on it are maybe optional, or aftermarket?

Are they made for weight? Why are the square holes in there. For attaching weights or duals?

The MF 1085 used the same cast center. It's design allows more wheel spacing range by moving the rail clamp blocks to either inner or outer holes without turning the
wheel center around.
 
I had to go back and look at the rims to see what you meant. But I get it.

Looks like you could really get those wheels out there if you wanted to. I don't think I'm gonna try it. :D
