MF-35 Perkins - Engine Information

Hello all,

I have a MF 35 with the Perkins Engine. There is a lot of blowby, coming out of the vent tube and oil bubbling out of the dipstick tube. So I am assuming the rings/cylinder sleeves are worn. This just started recently. It still starts up easily and runs OK but it is summer and will need it to run in the winter also. and I am afraid with the reduced compression, getting it started in the winter will be difficult. I was able to find a bunch of numbers on the block and was hoping someone could help me figure out the specifics of the engine or maybe point me in the right direction to find them, and then maybe some advice on the planned rebuild.

These number are on the left side of the block just above the fuel injection pump: 37111570/3 (or maybe 73 at the end) and 31 H6.
These numbers are located on the left side, lower and further back: NW 08 F and MC 25203 at
These number are on the right side of the block: 152UA and 39523DSL
Tractor serial number from the dash: 216598

The tractor is red - and dirty, but the engine seems to be painted yellow so I am not sure if the engine has been changed.

Questions (all assuming I am going to get a rebuild kit and rebuild the engine):

1. Who would you suggest purchasing the rebuild kit from or brand of rebuild kit? This tractor will not be meticulously restored, I use to for bush hogging, spreading manure and hauling water to our horses - so it will never be/stay clean. I also have to keep budget in mind.
2. Is it worth it to do an in frame rebuild, or should I plan to split the tractor? I have read that it is possible to remove the oil pan without actually splitting the tractor but it seems like it might be more of a pain than not splitting it. What are your thoughts?
3. There are different rebuild kits, what parts should I make sure to get in the kit?
4. Should I expect to need any head work? Should I rebuild the head also while it is apart? I noticed that some kits come with valve components.
5. What about the injectors?

I haven't rebuilt engines before, but I am pretty mechanically inclined (have swapped engines out of vehicles and changed the clutch in this tractor) so I am certain I can do it, just want to be prepared for what I am getting in to.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dan

first establish is it direct or indirect injection, is there combustion caps in the hear or no. this will tell you which of the 2 rebuild kits to use.
you must split the tractor to rebuild her. make sure and fit the modified lip seal conversion kit if rope seals are fitted to the rear of the crank. mostly the head and clock faces will be fine. unless there is head issues leave the head and injectors alone.

This site has the parts you need. Give them a call they will help you get the correct parts. If you are inexperienced you may need to get help removing and installing the sleeves. I pull with a correct puck and a sleeve puller. I ball hone the bores to make sure they are clean. I put the new sleeves in a cooler with dry ice and diesel fuel and they slip right in.
