MF 35 stuck in reverse

My MF35 is stuck in reverse gear & I can't get it out. I have tried taking off the transmission fill cap & poping it back into place, as I have done on other 35s, but it is stuck solid. Any ideas?

Just a wild guess but I would try jacking up one wheel and try to rock the tire back and forth. Then try to get it out of gear. Good Luck. Jim

When it happened to my '35, I decided to drive it in reverse back to the barn where the tools are. About 100 yards into the journey it cleared itself. Might try it.

Maybe you're moving the wrong gear when you open the plug on top of the transmission. My TO35 does this so infrequently that I can never remember which gear to move and just keep moving gears until it comes our of reverse. I've never not been able to get it fixed by myself but sometimes it takes a little longer than others and sometimes it takes a little stronger language!
Maybe you're not talking to it right!

Thanks tg. I'm going to keep poking around in there, maybe I'll hit on something that will work. I'll give it a little stronger talking to as well. Can't hurt.

Getting the main shift lever unstuck
Pull your filler plug for the transmission look inside you will see a big gear. Find a level spot shut off the tractor. Push the clutch down & put the high low shifter in neutral to relieve any pressure that might be on the gears. With a long screwdriver or a small pry bar pry the big gear forward if it is hung in reverse. Pry it back if it is hung in first gear. If it is hung in second or third you can see the shifting fork for them though the filler hole. You pry the fork forward if hung in second & back if hung in third. If you happen to go to far it will go in the other gear. You need to get it in the center. You should be able to feel the detent balls pop in the grooves in the shift rail as you move the gear or fork.

I had the samr thing happen to my 202.
I took the trans cover off and put 3 new detents
for the shifter rails, mine had worn flat over the years. I suppose you could grind them to a point again, if that is the problem

My 1080 massy will try to stick in gear, I have to shift it while the clutch is in and the tractor is still rolling, once it stops i cannot shift is out of gear, if i shift it while it is still rolling just a little it will move. I have a high and low and low will allow it to shift whenever but i have the sticking issue in high speed and i think when on a slope so back pressure is on the gears. This helps with mine and i have never got to the point of really stuck if i shift on the go.

Pushing the big gear forward did the trick! The tractor is now out of gear. Thanks Don & Big Dean! And thanks to everyone for all the good adive & suggestions.
