MF 35 Transmision

I just bought a 1961 MF-35 #SGM 211157. I was checking the fluid levels and noticed the transmission was very low. Can someone tell me,
A What grade oil goes into tranny?
B How much does it take to fill?
C Is there a filter and were is it located? Thanks for the help?

The transmission fluid on that model is also your hydraulic oil. I just use a hydraulic transmission oil in my tractor. It will take 8 gallons if you were to change it out. Some of them had a filter and some did not. If it does have a filter it will be inside the trans case behind the pto shifter.

My dipstick for the hyd. reads full, but when I look into the trans from the plug removed on top of tranny by the shifter it looks like not much in there. Is there only a small amount that flows through into the tranny?

Yes if the dipstick reads full when on a level surface after sitting a while, it is full. I just changed out my fluid today. Bought universal Trans/Hydro fluid at Tractor supply on sale $30 for 5 gallons. It takes 8 gallons as stated earlier. Also if you just got this thing, look for worn out shifter boots, power piston boot and missing gasket at the filler plug as any leak in these will allow water into the trans/diff. Keep tractor fully covered if they are bad until you can replace. That is why I just changed out my fluid. I also read somewhere that using diesel fuel to flush a water contaminated system was good so I did that between the drain and refill. I just ran it with no load or implements attached to circulate the diesel through out the system, then I drained it out and filled with oil. So far so good.
