MF 40 Industrial

Hi all,

I have just bought a Massey Ferguson 40 tractor off a local market gardener. The history is as follows - Used for potato shifting, as it HAD a forklift (someone used a gas torch and cut the heavy gauge steel, and stole the forklift! The theft was not noticed till a long time after, and the cuts were showing rust...) In 1999 it was deemed necessary to buy a brand new engine - they bought it, installed it, used it for one season then...potato prices dropped, and the tractor was left in the paddock, NO cover on the exhaust etc... Last weekend the boss gave it to one of his workers, and they put a can on it...too late:( There is water in the muffler almost up to the top! There is rusty water leaking out thru the manifold gasket when I push on it...and I dropped some water out of the sump, not a lot compared to what there might be, but 20 years...

In my mind technically the crankshaft and bearings should be fine, but at least one of the pistons and liners is no good, and also the head will be rubbish. What do you think? What other damage do you think there will be?

It has been "reversed" and most of the linkages are seized.

Is this a rare and valuable piece of equipment and history, and will it be worth sinking money into?

I will have it delivered on Saturday.

Any help appreciated and welcomed!

Joshua
