MF 50 had leak in radiator. Radiator to repair shop to have leak sealed and Rodded. New thermostat installed, radiator back on tractor. Cranked tractor and let it run at idle and higher rpm with heat gauge registering in the normal range. Did this twice at different times yesterday. No problems noted. Started the tractor today and while using it heat hand to the edge of the danger zone and antifreeze came out overflow tube. Thermostat problem?
Thanks for all replies and advice.

Did your thermostat have a small, !/8 th inch hole in it? If not , you could drill one in it. Also stick it in a pan of water on the stove and heat it up. Watch and see if it opens and at what temperature.

Given the condition of many replacement parts from the land of almost right it would appear that the T-stat is a question mark. Did you by chance drain the block when replacing the radiator? There's a chance you have an air pocket that can cause overheating. On a cold engine get a flashlight and see where the coolant level is compared to the top of the radiator -not- the top of the neck. Since you lost some fluid it may be down further than you expect but that's okay...for now. IF you see fluid(coolant) covering the top of the passages, crank it up, run at idle with the Cap OFF. As it begins to warm watch for bubbles or 'burping' and what the temp gauge says. If okay, put the Cap back on and let it warm to operating temp. If it starts to overheat you will probably have to pull the T-stat and do what Mr. Wondergem said or find a better quality T-stat :-(
Good Luck with it!
