MF 50 Hard starting

It’s always been hard to start, with slightly slower cranking speed compared to my other MF 35.

New starter. Gas tank, bowl and screen filter cleaned, carburetor TSX 683 kit done, initial needle settings both 1 turn out, good flow out of carburetor drain when opened. I haven’t adjusted carburetor yet following kit.

Has older style oil filter, inner replacement type, oil changed recently. Recently installed alternator, good voltage compared to previous barely enough with generator.

Spark plugs 1 and 4 routinely foul, but I clean regularly prior to starting.

Starts after many tries, appears to need max gas on lever. Seems to idle better and lower rpm now without stalling, but don’t want to burn out another starter (replaced 3 years ago).

Appreciate thoughts to help.

So got around to starting without fuel cap, no change, still took multiple tries, did notice after a few tries the odd time back pressure to the air system (minor oil spurt up), so don't think its a cap issue. Did adjust power needle out 1/4 turn cause governer wasn't kicking in on minor hills. Haven't got around to adjusting idle needle yet, now have a flat front tire. But I also hear a loud ticking on warm up, but my hearing is bad (therefore needle adjust don't go well).

As for compression, haven't done, and know it has valve seals are an issue, as plenty of blue smoke and excess valve cover exhaust.
