MF 65 Alternator Conversion Connector

Does the alternator connector from this site (Part # 178026) use the one terminal to connect to the BATT stud and the other terminal on connector is connected to nothing?

I purchased the alternator from this site with the tach drive but did not purchase the connector and now to buy the connector separately the shipping would be more than the price of the connector itself.

The connector uses a resistor between the #1 and #2 terminals causing a small but constant battery drain.

I would connect the alternator up as a 3-wire unit and use a diode, a resistor, an idiot lamp or an oil pressure switch to excite the alternator WITHOUT causing the constant battery drain.

There's LOTS of diagrams on this site and the 'net showing how to do that.

I agree with wore out. wire it as a three wire as it was intended to be, do not add a battery drain point. You didn't tell us if your tractor is gas or diesel, however if it is a diesel, it should already have the oil switch which could be used to excite the alternator. It should be located behind the dash, on a Tee connected between the oil line and the oil pressure gauge. If it is gas, you can add a switch or use one of the other methods.

Agree I have had bad luck with 1 wire alternators, I know everybody loves them. The MF diesel is a perfect tractor to wire up with a three wire.

This tractor is a gas engine and I ended up wiring it as a 3 wire with a NAPA connector. I also swapped out the ammeter for a voltmeter and added an indicator light to the dash. Works and charges perfectly now.

I'm brand new with a MF65 Gas. It's all original and I need an alternator set up. Where did you get the kit, gauge, and connector? Would love to do the same thing!

The alternator with tach drive and top bracket I bought off this site. Bolted right up to original mount on tractor. The gauge, indicator light and connector I bought from Napa.
