MF-65 Hydraulics question

Greetings again! My 1964 MF-65 I find that the external hydraulics stop working when I have the clutch fully depressed. If I let up on the clutch peddle , just a little" the external hyd's work again. I must have something set wrong. Any suggestions?? Thanks

Please define what you are calling external hydraulics.

Sounds like you have a two-stage clutch, when you push it fully down the PTO and hydraulic pump stop. Don't push the pedal beyond the first (travel) stage.

That's NORMAL on MF tractors with the two stage clutch. If you don't need the PTO clutch move the linkage pin to LOWER the clutch pedal and then only use the first stage clutch.

Hello Jim.me, The external hyd's is for the loader on the front of the tractor. Thanks for the info, I'm learning more and more about this tractor every day. Thanks. Geo3

Thanks Dieseltech, good info. I don't need PTO, just front-end bucket and snowplow and boy do I need the Snowplow!

What Dieseltech is trying to say is that your PTO AND hydraulics are both driven off the first stage of the clutch. Hence it is normal for the tractor to do what is doing right now.
But if you don't foresee needing the PTO, you can move the pin to lower the clutch pedal. This would make the tractor have a constant-running PTO and live hydraulics.
If you ever want to use the PTO though, you would have to move the clutch linkage back to where it is right now, so you can use your PTO.

Make sense?

Just to keep him with the same understanding of the two stages, on at least Masseys I believe it is:

First stage is transmission; the Transmission disconnects first. This is the disc next to the flywheel.

Second stage is PTO and pump; the PTO/pump disconnects second. This disc is inside the pressure plate cover, away from the flywheel.
