MF 85 three point hitch

I just got my first massey ferguson, the three point hitch won"t go up. Its not frozen as I can lift the bars up with my hands. I changed the fluid and put in 5 gallons, I only took out about four and its still not full. I know the lever that runs it is under my seat but it doesn"t sound like its even trying. Any help out there. Thanks in advance.

First make sure the cylinder shutoff knob is backed completely open, counterclockwise. If the tractor has the two or three spool auxilary valve on the lift cover the far left lever must be locked back for the three point to work. Tractor should hold about 11 gallons oil to fill after draining, and may take awhile for the oil to get from the trans fill point back to the diff case level dipstick. Find an operators manual if you don't have one, all the hydraulic info you need is in it.

my 85 did same thing, tractor sat in a barn for 10 years, i changed all the fluids and still didnt work. i tried everything and finally had to split the tractor and remove the pump. the inlet and outlet valves on the pump had seized up, i just gave them a little presure w a screw driver and the released, i did take them all apart and cleaned everything since i was already in there. it wasnt difficult to do just took awhile.

Thanks for the tips, when you say you split the tractor do you mean front from the back? I was thinking worst case scenario I'd have to take the top of the transmission off. I have a manual on the way I guess that will show me where the pump is. Thanks again. Don't know what I'd do with this forum.
