MF te or ted 20 ?

Hey folks, just picked up what was advertised as a MF ted-20. I
've never owned one, so trying to figure out if it is in fact a
Massey Ferguson, or just a Ferguson etc? Where would model/
serial number be? Also, it seems te-20 and ted-20 are
essentially the Same? What does the " d" designate? It's painted
MF red/silver, but seems like maybe it should be all grey.
Thanks for the help, I 'll have a lot more questions, I am sure.

Hi, well it certainly ISN'T a Massey Ferguson. US dates may be slightly different but here in the UK the TEA 20 was introduced in late 1947. Subsequent letters on the end of the 'TEA' referred to models having minor changes although the big change occurred around 1950 with the introduction of the 'Standard Vanguard' engine after the initial Continental. The next major step came in late 1954 with the introduction of the 'TEF' which was the diesel powered version. This continued until around 1957 with the introduction of the Ferguson 35 with the 23C engine. In the UK and Europe the Grey and Gold 35 continued until 1959 when the Perkins three-cylinder engine was added. When Massey-Harris and Ferguson joined together around 1959 the Stonleigh Grey and red scheme was used to symbolise the amalgamation of the two companies. Subsequently many 3-cylinder 35s and 65s carried castings with MHF (Massey Harris Ferguson) cast in them until all stock was used and then changed to 'MF'.
The TO designation in the States refers to Tractor 'Overseas whereas the TE designation refers to 'Tractor Europe'.
Paintwise European TEs should have Ferguson light grey and then 35s Stonleigh grey and Massey Ferguson red. I believe that Flint Grey was used in the States but I don't know over what period.

A TED20 is a TEA20 tractor that has been built to run on TVO , tractor Vapourising Oil , basically Kerosene or heating oil mixed with petrol .
If it is a Factory TED it will have the TED prefix on the serial plate , it will also have a two compartment fuel tank and a change over three position fuel tap . Other things that are different are larger valves , a different distributor , heavier manifold , modified carburettor , deeper head , longer reach spark plugs and if still in place a heat shield designed to keep the manifold hotter fitted to the outside .

ok, so I doubt its that then. I am going to continue to dig into this thing, Thank you for the great explanation.

Thank you David , though it does pale into insignificance against your expertise in just about everything else to do with Fergusons . :)
