MF TO20

I need help. I'm not mechanically inclined. But, I bought a MF TO20 last October. It ran just fine no problems. Over winter I started every now and then, no problems. Hadn't started it for about 2 weeks, then I tried and got nothing. Not even trying to turn over. I charged the battery, replaced my voltage regulator. And still nothing. I replaced the voltage regulator because it was making a clicking sound and there was a piece of the black plastic that had melted. I maybe thought the starter switch?????????

I always treat this problem as if there is a faulty battery lead connection:

I expect there shall be several comments as to what I'm about to suggest is NOT SAFE, fare enough:

With Tractor in Neutral/NOT IN GEAR and HIGH TENSION Lead from center of Ignition COIL to DISTRIBUTOR REMOVED:

With a fully charged battery and both cables (- + ) removed from battery:

Connect a set of booster/jumper cables from the Battery to the Starter as per below:

For a POITIVE ground system:

Connect the POSITIVE(red)jumper to the Battery (+ post) and the other end to the Head of the Cap screw that holds the starter in place to the Engine:

Attach the Negative (black) jumper to the battery (- post):

When you touch the Black Jumper to the HEAD of the BRASS/COPPER connection on the Starter (Item # 44) the Starter should start to MOTOR:

A TO20 is NOT a Massey Ferguson. It is a Ferguson built before Massey Harris and Ferguson merged.

Ok. Thanks for the correction. I was told.when I bought it, it was a Massey Ferguson to20 1951.

if it is a 51 you may have a to-30.

Thank you. I did find the problem. I took off the starter, alternator, and battery had them all checked and they tested good. Put it all back together and it started right up. The only change was a new voltage regulator. Must have been a connection issue.
