Mf135 Hydraulic knocking

HB Farm

New User
Hello. I’m new on here so sorry if this has been covered before. We have a mf135 1969. The Hydraulic pump started playing up so sent tractor away to be fixed. Had new pump unit oil etc. Now when operating the hydraulics it works well. However when holding an implement any heavier than our Ferguson 2 furrow plough it makes a knocking/rattling sound coming from under the gear stick no matter where the hydraulic levers are. Lower the implement and knocking goes. No knocking when arms go up or down just when holding. Is this normal? I’m almost certain they replaced the relief valve…Thanks 🙏

That sounds like there's PTO drive gear damage as the pump is driven from the PTO system. I had that happen years ago on a 165 that had broken teeth on one of the PTO gears,

Ok Thanks 🙏 will investigate further. Sounds like I should pop her open and get it sorted. 👍

If you can, leave the hydraulic system with no load and then put a load on the PTO shaft and see if the noise is still there. If it is I'll bet the PTO input gears, one or both have teeth missing like the 165 I had in years ago for the same noise.

I have seen more than one 135 hydraulic pump make a knocking sound especially if you pull the lever all the way up into the constant pumping position. It could also be a yoke broken in the pump. Jack the right side up and pull the round side cover off and have a look inside.

Ok thanks. Will have a look. Would the right side be with the fast/slow lever? Cheers

Hello. Thanks for all the help. On further investigation last night I’ve come to the conclusion that the pump support pegs are worn allowing the pump to move/vibrate and tractor casing exacerbating noise. Will replace pegs and see if this solves the problem. 🤞
