MF204 jerky

Hello I am new here. I have a MF204 workbull that has the shuttle transmission and gas engine. Its my first tractor and im rather new to this but its been a fun journey. Its got a pedal on the right that is shaped like a horse shoe and one side it forward and the other is reverse. The problem is this thing jerks and bucks like a bronco. I resorted to using my toe under the oposite direction and by pulling up my toe to engage the correct direction on the transmission and using the lever throttle. I wanted to run this by you guys and see if anyone else has had a similar issue and what they did to fix it. Could it be the tenson springs need replaced? Do these pedal parts ware out and cause sloppness and binding? Should I rig up a universal forward, neutral, reverse lever and not use the horse shoe pedal? I've been a lurker for a while now and I want to say thanks to everyone for the help.

To a certain point its the nature of the beast. When I first got mine over 35 years ago
I rebuilt the shuttle transmission and it was still jerky engaging forward and reverse.

You can somewhat dampen it by having it in a higher gear for close work and slipping
the converter.

Take care
