MF245 timing marks

When I removed the timing cover from my 245 I noticed that the timing marks were not lined up.Do I need to realign them? This is my first tractor project.This old trator really needs some love.

Hello,
As long as nothing has been removed and the camshaft has not slid forward out of engagement then there is nothing to do. After the timing marks are set just one turn of the engine will put them out of visual alignment although the timing will be correct. You will have to turn the engine many times to get them back together again. If in any doubt you can set the crank with the mark uppermost and remove the idler wheel. All the others can be set back then to be sure. Allow for the gears turning slightly during engagement.
