MF35 + Baler

Hello.

I have a 4 cylinders MF35 from 1957. I'm considering getting a baler for it, but I've been warned that it's not powerful enough for most balers.

Anyone here with recommendations on a specific baler?

Small square with no wagon and flat land.

No reason it won't handle a smaller square baler. Many bales of hay baled with that size of tractor.

So a New Holland 268 or a Welger AP41 or the likes wouldn't be a problem to handle?

Should not be.

Didn't get the Welger balers over here, 268 NH looks similar size to a 9 MF.

MF 35 & 135 ran many a Canadian built MF 3 & 9 balers pulling flat racks with 100 bales.

IH 276 pulled a #9 towing a 16 foot flat rack on this farm years ago.

Here in North Western Alberta my neighbor baled 15,000 > 20,000 Clover bales each fall ...40 > 55 lbs
MF 4 cylinder Diesel...3 gear Low range...

My Father baled 20,000 + bales red clover and timothy mix each fall......1963 MF 35 X 3 gear Low Range...
New Holland baler purchased new in 1964....

We had a platform off the back of the baler.....stacked 30 bales, then tripped and bales would stay in stack on the ground...

Above scenario was played out each fall until 1979...

Then upgraded to a larger Tractor and baler that produced Round bales...

We baled for years with a Farmall Super C and a case 200 baler with no problems.

Diesel or Gas. Diesel will do a better job and less fuel.

NH 68 baler and MF 35 deluxe this year but for last 12 yrs had ferguson TO 30 with single stage clutch penty power

I've done it many times with a 268 New Holland and our 35 had the single stage clutch. You will probably feel every plunger stroke through
the seat but that won't affect anything.

It's a double clutch gasoline.

It will handle any of the smaller older balers NH 269, 270, 271, 273: JD 14T or 24T: MF 3,9,12
Be prepared for a lot of rocking motion.
Millions of bales have slid out the back of those combinations.

What Hay said, you'll be fine. Just remember to run the baler at the rated speed, should be in the manual. Don't try to run it slow and "take it easy" on the baler. They need to run fast enough to keep the flywheel moving so the bale can get formed right and the the hay cut. Took me a while, and a bucket full of broken shear bolts, to learn that!

We had good luck with both MF #3 & #10 . They would both work well with a #35 Tractor.

When I was a kid we baled with a Ferguson TO35 Deluxe (live PTO model) and a John Deere baler, simply dropping them on the ground. Did that because the Ferguson was more reliable than the Oliver 880 we pulled wagons while baling and the Farmall 806 always seemed to never have any brakes (it was the plow tractor so you never needed brakes while flipping dirt).

The small sq balers for them are fine.
