MF65 loader hydraulics

i have a 1950's MF65. unfortunately i cannot raise and lower the front loader if i have an implement on the 3 point unless the 3 point is in the down position; which really doesn't work very well. this basically means i have to take off the implement in order to use the loader. this seems unusual as i see other tractors where you the pto is up and the loader still functions. is there a way to change this? what would it entail. thanks for any ideas.

Hello Aaron,
In its simplest form you would need a valve like the one in the photo. Its called an isolating or divertor valve. When the central black knob is pushed 'in' you have full operation of the 3-pt linkage. When the black knob is 'out', the 3-pt is locked in whatever position it happens to be in. You then have full supply available for your loader. The three point is locked but will only stay in that position for as long as the lift circuit is able to keep oil in it. If it is worn it will not stay up for long. Generally the linkage stays up for longer than it would do if you switched the engine off.

The valve shown has three ports with the outer selector. Unless you need any other supplies a simple one-port push/pull would suffice. There are numerous valves available. Depending on how you currently control your loader it might be advantageous to invest in a valve with operating levers that you can control the loader from.

You may find it useful to make a simple transport lock to hold your 3 point in the up position while your hydraulics are switched to run your loader.

It is not the perfect solution but likely the least expensive.

thanks for the responses and photos. i do have a diverter valve but the 3 point won"t stay up, so that locking device might work well. i"ll try it. take care.

Hello Aaron,
When using a divertor valve the 3-pt will only stay up for as long as the system can hold the oil. If you want a positive device to hold the 3-pt up then you will need something like the bracket shown.
