MF65 solenoid availability

Hello, I am looking for a solenoid switch for my MF65 gas. I had the tractor out getting it ready for Halloween and now big click, no start. Does anyone have an idea what year model of car would interchange? I am limited to Autozone and Advance due to it being Sunday and am expected to pull a hayride tomorrow evening. I would like to find one that would bolt into position without buying the generic Ford model. Thanks in Advance,

Aaron

It is likely that your problem is something other than your solenoid. The big click you hear is the solenoid coil slamming the contacts together, which is what it is supposed to do. Turn your headlights on and have someone watch them when you try to start the tractor. If they dim way down when the solenoid engages it means there is not sufficient amperage to turn the starter and power the lights. Clean every connection from the battery posts to the starter and also where the ground strap connects to the block and make sure your battery is fully charged or jump from a known good battery -- in fact do that first - you'll identify the problem as your battery/cables to posts connections right away if the starter works when you jump the battery.

I am thinking you may be correct here. Pos wire was found loose which cleared things up for now. battery voltage is around 10V if the tractor hasn't been run in a while. Will set a new battery in this week. Thanks, Aaron

To answer you question on the selenoid, it's the same as the older chevies. Atleast it is on our 165, so I'd think the 65 would be the same. I took a brand new starter from my blown up 283 out of a '66 bel-air, and used it to rebuild the starter in our 165 many years ago because it was a sunday in the winter, and we needed the tractor to feed.

The armature, gear, and nose cone were wrong, but they used the same case and selenoid, which was enough to get me going.
