Hello everyone, I have a Pony that the gear stick keeps coming out of the forks when changing gears. It is a straight style gear stick and not the normal bent style that's on earlier models, any ideas on a fix?

You might be missing part of the end of the shift lever. The Massey ones I'm familiar with all have a flattened knob on the end of them, like this:

Since they are brazed together in the factory, I suspect you could fix yours with a little torch work, IF that's what's wrong with it. But your's doesn't look broken, so your lever retaining snap ring might be missing and the lever is able to rise up and come out of the slots. If you have a good shift boot, that wouldn't be obvious right off. steve

What does the snap ring look like?
Ryan, pull the rubber boot off the shift cover, and there will be the upper part of the shift lever ball, partially covered by a cupped washer (maybe), which is held down by a snap ring around it's outer edge, imbedded in an inside groove in the shift cover. You can kind of see the assembly here, but this is not from a Massey.View attachment 3884

I don't think yours will have the spring either, just a cup on top of the ball. If my phone wasn't being such a buthead, I'd take a picture of mine, in a 101 Jr. steve

I did some more looking and you may not have a snap ring on your Pony, but a cross pin holding the shift lever in place. If that pin is broken or severely worn, it would allow the lever to raise up. Your knob on the end of the lever that fits in the shift rails in the tranny may also be excessively worn but could be built up to compensate for that. Or find a new lever. There were several used on eBay.

If you need more help than this, try posting in the Massey Harris/Ferguson topic further down on the list of Forums. There are great experts lurking in that section. steve
