I see the spec sheet for the Massey Harris models 81/82/20 and 22 show 16 US quarts of gear lube oil for the differential and another 8 quarts for the transmission. In a manual I have, it says that the tranny and differential are separated by a "wall" but I don't know if the two sections are actually sealed off from one another or just sort of "separated" but maybe continuous for oil use. I think both have their own fill plug on top (the tractor isn't here right now so I can't check that for sure) but I now the tranny has an oil level check plug on the left side and the differential has an oil level check plug on the rear.
So then, why am I asking? Because underneath, I can only see one drain plug. Are the two chambers totally separate and sealed off from one another inside the tranny/differential assembly?
