Milwaukee Battery

I have a Milwaukee battery that I use in my Milwaukee chain saw. It is about four years old but not used a great deal. This is taken from the battery: M 18 Red Lithium, High Output, HD 12.0. It will not charge more than two lights on the battery. I cleaned the contacts and tried a different charger. No luck. Can anyone help me please?

Has it sat discharged for some time? Batteries like to be fully charged. I’m sure others will weigh in.

I don’t know, that may be enough to weaken it or possibly a defective battery. Hopefully a battery expert will weigh in. That’s all I’ve got.

Those M18 12.0 and 8.0 batteries have a reputation for the cells becoming imbalanced. There are youtube tutorials to rebalance and hopefully save it, if it's no longer under warranty (three or five years I don't recall for the 12.0). Good luck.

Is it pushed fully in until it clicks/seats? Some that have only gotten two or three bars after a charge found the battery wasn't fully seated in the charger.

Yep imbalanced. I charged low cells with single cell charger but didn't last long till did it again. Ordered new cells and rebuilt.
A lot of work but it works like new.

You did pretty good to get 4 years out of it.

It ruins the battery on tools not used often. It's not just Milwaukee it's every brand. I have a Dewalt pole saw the batteries would be toast but the same battery fits a drill I use often.

Battery maintenance suggestion- I cycle my batteries through two tools I tend to use quite often, my M12 batteries I cycle through a magnetic LED work light, and my M18 I cycle them through a vacuum.

Thanks to all replies! I checked the battery and how it fits in the charger. It is making good connection with the charger.
