Milwaukee Sockets

Has anyone used 1/2 deep impact sockets of this brand. Daughter thought I needed a Mil. 1/2 battery impact for Xmas, Now looking for sockets to go with the wrench. They have very complete sets in metric and
standard. thanks chris

I have not used a Milwaukee impact gun. But I have used lots of impacts over that years from a 1" pneumatic to 1/4" battery and all the sizes between.

You certainly do not need Milwaukee sockets. HF has the same warranty and much less trouble exchanging for a new one IF you break one.

That nonsense having to fool around with sending things in or waiting for them to evaluate ti and decide if they are going to warranty them while you wait without the tool is a bunch of bull. I was told by my local place that has taken on a complete array of Channelock tools including sockets and such they will not do an over the counter exchange. I told them I might just as well buy them from a Pawn shop for a discounted price and worry about the warranty later. She tried to tell me about they didn't have some contract deal. I said so I'm supposed to leave the equipment set till they decide to send me a new piece 2 weeks later. She said you pay more for them and that is why the name brand costs more or something to that extent. I said I pay more for the name brand at the pawn shop too. I also told her that if I had to keep several pieces to do a job then I would not be buying them there and will not be buying tools where I can't do an over the counter warranty. Like my one brother said 30 years ago if I have to keep several around for you to warranty it I would never get anything done. He was doing press repair work at the time. Going and replacing press parts, and machining new pieces when new ones were not available for old presses. And doing clutch conversions and all sorts maintenance work including getting them unstuck from bottom when somebody didn't watch what was happening as they ran the ram down to check for clearance to make a new part with the new die in there. SO I guess if I have to have several pieces then they are not much good if that is how the warranty is handled.

Agreed, I am pretty particular about my
hand tools and while I am not normally a
HF tool guy impact sockets are actually
easier to make right than a standard thin
wall hand use type. Impacts are both
thicker and made of softer, less brittle
alloys. Buy em where they are cheap and
easily warrentied, aka HF

I will not claim to be an expert on tools, although I've used both the Milwaukee and Harbor Freight line of tools...a lot.
My previous job was with 10 other guys who used Milwaukee battery tools exclusively. I worked there 10 years and I was issued a a drill/impact drill, along with an impact driver for installing bolts/screws/nuts.
The Milwaukee Fuel line is a good one, although they had an big embarrassment with an impact gun revision where many thousands left the factory and they failed out of the box or shortly after. You would think QC would have caught that, but I guess QC took a vacation for awhile. We had suppliers that replaced our equipment without asking questions, because if they balked, my boss would have instantly gone to another supplier.
Several years ago, my nearest HF store was an hour away, but they have opened one up that is now 30 minutes away and it's a town that I frequent often anyway. So, I took the jump and started buying HF's Hercules line. Unlike their cheaper brushed lines that only have a 90 day warranty, the Hercules is brushless and most of their battery tool lines have a 5-year warranty on the tool and a 3-year warranty on the battery and the charger. Unlike a lot of other brands where you need to send it away (some even now wanting you to send a $90 check along with it in case the tool has no defects), you walk into a HF store and the exchange is instant. I did have a HF battery fail on me this past summer and the lady just told me to walk over to the battery section and get a new one. I didn't have to send it off and wait for the return. Also, this was a battery that was used HARD in 90+ degree temps for quite a few weeks on a circular saw where we were ripping lumber. My co-worker was a Milwaukee and DeWalt man and he is really impressed with the HF line.
Before I get a bash against HF for being cheap, Chinese junk, most of your Milwaukee battery line is made in China also. Plus the Milwaukee line is Chinese made and Chinese OWNED. The HF line is Chinese made and American-owned, if it really matters to you.
To the OP, the Milwaukee sockets are good, probably made in Taiwan. But unless you are a stickler for having all your tools the same brand, at least consider other brands that have a good warranty.

A couple years ago I bought a cheap set of impact sockets from Harbor Freight. I wouldn't really recommend them. Not because they're poor quality just because every time I went to use them they skipped the size I needed. I finally got annoyed and bought a set of nonskip sockets from Tekton. They've done everything I've asked of them.

Can look at HF. The reason I was looking at the Mil. sockets is that they don't skip any sizes, have a carry case to travel with and they are etched and stamped for size where a lot are just etched and will be worn off shortly. I never asked for the impact and it also came with a grease gun, which won't see much use either as I like a manual one and don't farm to need one. But now she can get me other tools as needed since I haven't had a cordless tool for over 23 years since I left the dealership. Just borrow one from work if doing a project.

What "skip sizes?" I own several sets of harbor freight sockets going back to when they came in metal boxes and it was called "Harbor Freight Salvage Co," and they all do SAE sizes from 7/16" to 1" by 1/16" increments.

Some older Metric sets, not just HF ones, are missing 18mm but the only thing 18mm I've ever encountered are the caliper bracket bolts on my previous truck. The latest set I got from HF includes SAE and Metric in one box. It includes 18mm but skips 19mm, but 3/4" is only .002" larger than 19mm.

Contrary to popular belief, sockets are not made to exact dimensions. There's a lot of crossover between metric and SAE even though many don't want to admit it, or claim you'll round off your nuts.

Why don't you just go over and check Harbor
Freights website right now. Their metric
sets skip several sizes. Yes some are
compatible with sae but that's also another
set a person would have to buy to have one
full set. I refuse to buy sets that skip
sizes.

I too am not a big HF fan but do own some of their impact sockets and wrenches If a few get lost or by the hands of my grandsons then it's alot cheaper to buy than my snap-ons or other higher price tools in my toolbox.

I got the set if Quinn impact socets from Harbor Freight to keep in my truck. Very complete set of sae and metric. No size skips. Plus in a very sturdy plastic case. Dont pay full price though. I think I got mine for around 140 bucks with coupons

Doesn't Harbor Freight require you to exchange the entire set of sockets for a new set if you have a warranty claim? Which would be fine for me - except my son has a habit of losing at least one socket
every time he touches my tools. If you don't have the entire set (including the damaged socket) you can't exchange.

I took a set of tools to the Caribbean for a mission that I work with. The ratchet handle broke. I did not lug the whole set home. Just took the ratchet handle in, got a new one. Sent that back down with the next crew that went.

I did not give them any sob story, just took it in, got a new one.
