Minneapolis tractor advice

I found a Minneapolis tractor not that far from home I have not seen it in person but from the road it looks all complete best as I can tell I called the owner he said it is a 1929 the motor is sitting sideways in the frame he wants $2000 for it is that a good price it has been sitting out for about 10 years so it’s probably locked up but before that it was inside can you get parts for it I don’t know what model it is he said I could look at it so I will probably stop sometime it’s on steel wheels

I would not be typing here jump in your vehicle and go look that is a good price if it is a cross motor and complete.

There used to be a company called Modern Machinery that had bought up all the spare parts inventory after MM went out of business. They even used the original logo. Does that company still exist or did they sell all the parts? They helped me once, but that's been 30 years or more.

Being a 1929, if in fact that year is correct, it would be a 17-30 and highly likely a type b. If the wheelbase is 90+"'s it's a B, if 80" it's an A. There was a 27-42 built at that time as well. Basically a 17-30 running a 100 rpm fast. Not real common, very nice running tractors though. On the MM site someone may know about parts. 20 years ago my dad had valves made as well as the exhaust manifold.

Jim, Come to the Fall Festival at Farmamerica Oct 12 and you can see a 27-44 on display. It's complete except for an air cleaner and in running order, but it doesn't get started often w/o air cleaner.

2k is pretty cheap actually. When you go to look at it, if it has not been turned over in a while, don't try it! Make sure the valves are loose prior to turning at all, or you run the risk of breaking a rocker arm or doing more damage than you want.

Cash, I think those numbers are 21-32 and 27-44. We have a 1926 27-44 at the place where I volunteer. A "monster" tractor.

27-42 was built in 28 & 29. 27-44 was built from 20 through 28 i believe. A 12-25 was built from 20 to 26, but i never heard of a 21-32. 35-70's were in 29 yet, but a 35-70 would have never sat for 10 years and sure wouldn't get it 2k

Just for clarification, I think we're talking about two different animals here. The original post said it was a Minneapolis tractor with the motor crossways in the frame. Below are pictures of two such tractors, one of which is a 22-44.

The gray tractor in the other photo is the one Ron is referring to. It is a Twin City 27-44, which was a forerunner to the Minneapolis Moline tractors.

Just wanted to make sure we're all on the same page here. Hopefully the original poster can get some pictures of the one he is looking at.
