Misc. tractor weights, cost?

Good evening friends,

A friend of mine has some old Internatinal front wheel weights just laying around (200# total). I brought one home today and if I cut a thick piece of flat stock and drill a few holes, I can get them on the front of the tractor ok. Not the prettiest, not the ugliest, but it's a work tractor. I think I will really like the weight when I brush hog in the woods this spring/summer and will like it next year when I blade snow, as the front gets light pretty easily on the 901.

The bracket may run $10 if I cut it at the shop and have my friend help me. Is there a rough rule of thumb for $/lbs. It seems most new stuff runs upwards of $0.50 - $1.00/lb. Scrap is going for what, $.05/lb.?

Bolts will cost another $10-$15 dollars or so, does $40 or $50 seem like a reasonable offer :?: I really don't know, and I doubt he has a number in mind.

The weight boxes w/ weights can be found for this tactor, but what do they go for? $150? $200? and how much total weight, box and all?

Yeah, scrap iron prices are nuts. Clean iron is $100 a ton, or so I've been told.

I would think that 40-50 would be reasonable for 200# of weights. It's more than the scrap man would give!

I buy weights at auctions whenever I get a chance (if the price is right). I usually pay $.30-.45 per pound, but have always been able to resell them (usually by advertising in the paper for 1-2 weeks) at $.50/pound and up. Suitcase style weights always bring the most.

if they are suitcase weights, the type that are made to hang on a front weight bracket, $1 a pound is what they go for in the actions down here.. and thats only if your lucky... seen 'em go for $1.25 a pound most days..

we have a metal recycler here in northern california, you can buy any used steel shape (like the 3x3 x 3/8 angle iron to repair our trailer) and last week i paid .45/lb! if you guys can sell me scrap for .10/a lb i will buy all you have. i was in oregon for new years and we went to the metal yard for scrap for some fire works and they charged .30/lb it is so interesting to see the prices accross the country

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. The $.05/lb is about what the scrap yard will pay for them. I've not tried to purchase anything recently.
