Misrepresented auction item....

Hopefully, this is read as an observation & not a gripe.

It's going on over a year & a half since I opted to start watching & bidding on agricultural internet auctions. Don't know why I thought there would be any more legitimacy with that style of auction vs ebay. There's an example listed below. Can't believe it's been bid up that high in the condition it's in, with time to go before the auctions end. Anyone that knows these machines & has sight eyes would understand that machine is not "complete and ready to go" as stated in the description. Nor is there much value to those machines as parts are scarce. There have been several complete wood threshers, belts & all, that were not McCormick that didn't bring what this machine is at. One exception was a Huber 32x54 with twin feeders that brought $950. Also at that auction was a 36" wood Case thresher that went for $550 & a Birdsell in decent shape for $176.

I do hope the two bidders actually know what they're bidding on.

That is one nice looking threshing machine, about as nice as you'll find for an all-wood model. The only thing I don't see in the pictures is the bundle feeder - hopefully it is there and just not visible in the pictures. The belts are commonly removed for storage and if absent are easily fabricated by someone who knows about such things. I'd imagine that whoever would be bidding on a machine like this would most likely have a good understanding of what they're looking at - threshing machines really only appeal to a small sub-culture of enthusiasts that probably doesn't include the "just moved to the country and I want to start farming" kind of folks who may not understand the "value" of what they're bidding on.

It's quite nice looking. To me, the bundle feeder is the big issue. Also noticed the door at the bottom of the tailings elevator is gone & the inspection door to the wind stacker is coming off. There's also a cracked piece above the sliding door on the back of the machine. Indeed, the last two pieces can be repaired or fabricated, the wood replaced on the back & I'm sure someone out there might have the rest of the fold out portion of the feeder. Still not something I would call complete & ready to go. Did notice the drive belt was still there. Those can still be found, but they've become rather pricey.

It's at $510 as of the timestamp of this posting. I opened that link expecting the bidding to be in the 5-figure range.

People bidding on this know what they're looking at and know what they're getting, I'm sure. $510 is hardly out of line based on the prices you quoted for other threshers, none of which were McCormick Deering.

Oh, and this absolutely must be stated: An auctioneer, misrepresenting something? Perish the thought!

I paid 1800 for my steel mccormick machine when they were selling for 400 dollars because thats what
the seller wanted and it was close. Also sold my case machine for 1800 so i could break even. 510 is
not crazy money if you want one, you have the money, and thats what it brings at auction.
