mixed grains

Dad planted oats and peas one year. Barley and vetch the next. Grain field was always the same field. As much for the straw as the feed. Neighbor cut the grain and baled the straw. Farmall M with Case pull type combine, M and big New Holland baler twine baler. Both had their own Wisconsin engine. Dad ground the feed with a Bear Cat hammer mill with a hay conveyor, ran it with a Farmall H on the belt....James

barley will add feed value to the mix and the agronomical affect on soil, weed control, etc, plus supports the oats from blowing over
When I first started planting oats barley and peas it worked good and I really liked it. The last two times I planted it about 4-5 years ago the barley was a good 2-3 weeks behind the oats and peas that is why I quit the barley.

IIRC we planted peas with triticale a couple times. Never had much of a stand of peas, maybe a plant every 8-10' or so in any direction. We might have planted peas with oats once or twice too. Same result, not many peas.
