MM R engine noise

Hey guys , just added another Moline to my collection .A barn fresh Moline R . Its all there and runs, but has a kind of low noise down in the engine block area. Were these engines know for noisy crank bearings ????

Jim,
The crank in an R is supported in the front by a roller bearing and in the rear by a shell thrust bearing. There is no middle bearing. The front crank roller bearing is notorious for making noise on these especially if they've sat for a while (which most have done in some point of their life). Rust gets on the rollers of the bearing and produces a growling sound when running. Only way to fix it is to pull the crank. Roller bearings are available from a local bearing shop cheaper than from AGCO. Replace the inner race on the end of the crank too. It's pressed on.
