mm uts clutch

hello..
was wondering if you could give me some help advice

I've a red nose uts 1941 and when I was using it I started to loose the clutch snap on the lever..it became easy to slip in then became hard to near impossible to snap the lever back so basically it's constantly driving and not disengage..I had to crash it into first gear to get me back to where I needed to be..

I removed the side cover and there was a big gap between the 3 yoke pads and the solid discs where you normally adjust...I pulled the pin and took up the slack yet still no change as I though it just needed adjusting..

it doesn't snap in or out ..just seems to hit a solid point and no over centre...I backed the yoke off and the solid disc came back and was loose..the toothed plate seems along way in the flywheel ,not sure if that's normal. but either way I've issues..is it best to split the tractor to deal with it as after a good fiddle didn't seem to make any difference..

are new plates available or what do you think is the best plan? is it a hard job to split them? I've heard of needing big long bars ??

thanks

Could post the pictures I sent you. Long head bolts ok for lining up ,but you have to get in between with puller so front end has to be out of the road.

I think he means use long bolts to keep the engine and clutch housing bolt holes aligned when splitting the tractor. Without some kind of support the front and engine will tip to one side or the other when you separate the engine from the transmission. I have used a couple cylinder block studs for that purpose.

I would also use wooden wedges or some other means to keep the front axle from pivoting on the front bolster to help avoid tipping. And support the rear of the engine well, preferably on both sides. Then using a floor jack under the transmission, I would roll the transmission, rear end and all away from the engine. I have a concrete floor in my shop, however.

As far as your clutch problem goes, It might pay to have a helper work the lever while you observe the operation of the brass bearing, the slip collar the brass bearing goes on and the links. You could also have a lining failing and a chunk of it has crawled up over the rest of the lining and now it won't release. (but you will have to take it apart to fix that.)

I have never done it but, there was available a 4 piece clutch plate that came in sections so you could replace the clutch plate without splitting the tractor. You would have to unscrew the adjusting assy all the way off and break out the old plate and put the new pieces in place.
