Picked up the project halfway through Other guy was messing with the electrical system

I finally got my 60 running it seems to have condenser problems I replaced it multiple times
The other day I was driving it like normal started puffing black smoke & died wouldn't get the tractor to restart
Happens all the time

Recommend you find John T's trouble shooting guide. I have concluded that NAPA has the best ignition parts, but it seems nothing is as good as it was when every engine had points/condenser ignition. I don't know about
your 60, but my 70 is a "wasted spark" system where the distributor turns at engine speed and fires on exhaust stroke too. So points etc wear out 2X faster. I finally went the Pertonex route with resister wires and
haven't had a problem in years. Knock on my head. You're very probably right in assuming an ignition problem, but check out fuel flow, wasp nests in intake etc

Not knowing what you have done, I recommend cleaning everything in the distributor and especially the points (don't forget to add a dab of grease to the back side of the points where they hit the cam). Scrape any carbon off the cap and check the rotor. HTH

Hi,

I had problem with my 70 this fall. I discovered the coil had failed and was replacing that, when I discovered a crack in the spark wire as well. So I ended up replacing the wires too.

When I got the tractor last year, the carb was full of junk and the inlet screen gone. So I obviously rebuilt and that was the first hurdle. I also had junk in the tank so totally took it out and washed out several times and now put a tank screen on my sediment bowl.

Now runs like a champ!

Good luck!
