My 1954 model60 is running real rough. Sometimes it won't start and when it does it misses and hits and on and on. It was running like a top until a month ago and I was going down the road and upped the throttle and she fell on her face and never got back up. I overhauled the Carb a year ago its got spark at the plugs. An suggestions what to try next?

Question #1
Define what you did to overhaul the carburetor.
If you dind't remove those stainless steel balls and baffles using the correct drill bit to clean them your tractor likely won't run at its best. It wouldn't take much for a chunk of whatever to lodge in a passageway causing problems. I've got a friend who's top notch at working over the duplex Marvel-Schebler carbs should you need a recommendation.

Question #2
Have you observed the 60 running in the dark? Many times an electrical short will show up when you get it running and turn out the lights. I've found several bad distributor caps, plug wires, and even spark plugs this way.

Question #3
Have you checked the carburetor float level? I've seen issues there that present similar symptoms.

Hope this gives you a few things to go on.

had a 50 that was running rough. replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. turned out it had a bad plug and the other side from the bad plug, the plug i replaced was bad. got another plug and it ran great. they dont make champions like they used to.

I changed the plugs and no difference. I did not use any drill bits when I put the kit in the Carb. The plugs are sooty black after running for 15 min? Pionts and cap look like new. I could replace the wires but I don't think that's the problem? Could to coil be doing this?
