Hey all, I took the valve cover off my 38 model A last night and noticed that looks like someone in the past has done some JB welding or something on here. I’m sure that’s not repairable and I’m likely in the market for a new head now? I was planning to take the head and block to a machine shop anyways but this might just change plans a little now.Any feedback is appreciated thanks.

continue... remove head and take it in. you be surprised at what machine shops can do. all i see is the rocker mount looks welded, that is fixable.

I think the epoxy is highlighting an area of attention and that a copper push rod tub or 2 is in your future its not a big deal im surprised someone went to the work and expense of the epoxy. Im not sure if an unstyled A has 4 or 2 I know my B had 4. Its a super easy repair. You might as well pull the head and get it checked out though since it needs some attention at the rocker stud. Your part number should be AA1615R push rod Tube. Like said above someone at a machine shop will be able to help with your rocker arm stud that should be easy enough to solve there isn't any oil going through it or anything I wonder if the pile of epoxy leaked down onto it from someone being impatient to solve the push rod issue you see its kind of fanned out around the push rod...just a guess but needs some TLC is all I wouldn't start shopping yet I don't think they have a NEW head like a B so it would be finding a different one and cleaning it up at the same machinist anyway probably being a good boy and pushing some new tubes in that one too might as well try with yours first.
