Model A John Deere with HyGard

[Legacy A JD]

Has anyone ever run HyGard in there old 2
cylinder tractors the people at my local
dealer say it would be fine to run in my
Model A if I can it would be great
because all of the other tractors we have
4020 and newer run it

I run it in everything.

I run it in the hydraulics but not the rear end.

Hyd-guard will work fine but it doesn't deaden the gear sing like heavier lubricant does.

Not sure if OP is talking about the hydraulic system or gear case.

You can run HyGard in the hydraulic system, but you will lose some lift capacity. If you have say a No. 45 loader on it, you won't lift as much. If you are lifting a No. 5 mower, it probably won't matter.

If you are talking about the gear case, it probably won't matter if you don't use it much. Not sure why you would use HyGard there though, since it is the second most expensive oil in the world, the most expensive being CASEIH HyTran.*

*Okay, HyGard probably isn't the second most expensive oil in the world, but it is a lot more expensive than gear oil.

Straight 50wt motor oil can be had cheap . Additive package usually meets GL-4 which is superior to GL-1.
Motor oil is yellow metal friendly and usually does not deteriorate the PTO clutch and brake friction material.
