Model A Powr-trol

I have a JD A with Powr-trol. My issue is it will not stay where I set it, it slowly drops back to the lowest position. I have replaced the leather cup on the piston and I am pretty sure I am getting a good seal. On my Ford 8N the 3 point hitch will stay where the lever is set. On the JD I believe the lever only does up and down, not a set position. Any suggestion on what is causing the sag would be appreciated.

I have a A with add on 3pt also and have
had this problem, I think theres a spot on
the powertrol gasket that can blow out. But
I suspect you've replaced that also during
the cup replacement.

A Powr-Trol that's working properly will maintain any position you set it at. It's the older Power
Lift that's either all the way up or all the way down.

Another place beside the piston cup that can cause the Powr-Trol to leak down is the gasket between
the piston cylinder and the rock shaft housing, p/n A623R. The rock shaft housing has to be removed
to get access to this gasket.

A faulty check valve inside the Powr-Trol can also cause a leak down situation.

I would bet your problem is caused by a blown cylinder gasket.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Buy 2gaskets and piece of screen wire. Cut screen to shape of gaskets. Coat gaskets and screen with Permatex and bolt to tractor. Used on 1950 JD A and 227 corn picker. It works, no blown seal. LVP
