Mohawk 1360 batwing shedder

Would anyone know the correct size, stroke and dia. Hydraulic cylinder for the lift cylinder on the Mohawk 1360 shredder? I can not find any info on this shredder.

I don't know the correct size but maybe we can help you figure it out. Do you have the cylinder and are just looking to replace it, or is the cylinder missing?

Looking at some pictures I found on auctiontime, it appears that it is probably a standard 8" stroke ASAE type hydraulic cylinder, common on farm implements from the 1950's through the 1970's. As it's a heavy mower I'd want a larger diameter cylinder, maybe 3-1/2" or 4" bore. Need to measure to confirm.

Do you have access to the mower to take measurements? If the mower is in transport position or fully lowered, measure the center-to-center distance between the two holes that the cylinder pins to. With the machine fully lowered, if the distance is around 20-1/4" then it uses the cylinder I described above. Same if the distance is around 28-1/4" with the machine locked in transport position.

The cylinder that is on it now isn’t the correct one. Someone has limited the stroke by putting spacers on the shaft. This still was not correct and it has damaged the cylinder connection point on the shredder. I’m rebuilding that and was trying to load the correct cylinder so it does not happen again. Thanks!!!!

It's common to put spacers on the cylinder to limit how far you can lower the mower. They're not necessarily there because the cylinder is necessarily wrong.

How was the connection damaged? Ripped off? Cylinder is too short. If it's bent away from the cylinder it's potentially too long.

" Surplus Center" is a catalog I receive in the mail. I've bought numerous cylinders from them and they have a lot of types with a lot of different connecting ends.....priced right. If you can look at your cylinder and have a measuring tape, you should find what you need there.

Not familiar with that shredder but do you have a cylinder on the other side.....since you said a cylinder, that translates to me that you have a batwing, 13' wide! I have had many shredders and unless they were batwing they didn't have a hydraulic cylinder of any type!

Yes it is a batwing it has a cylinder for each wing and a lift cylinder on the running gear. That is the cylinder I need. The one on it now is not correct and has damaged the pin hinge on the mower. I’m rebuilding that so I was trying to locate the correct cylinder to make it right when I am done. I did find out who bought out Mohawk many years ago, it is Ag Meier and I sent them a email inquiring about a parts list and today I received one for my model 1360 but must have been a very early model year as it did not have hydraulic cylinders it had a cable winch mounted in the middle of the mower platform that you would hook to each lifting point 1 at a time , pin it and go to the next. That would have been a job each time you were to use it as compared to the hydraulics we have now! Anyway I did contact them and see if they could send me a newer Manuel because all I needed were the hydraulic cylinder.

So if anyone has old Mohawk equipment just go to Ag Meier web site they were really fast about trying to help me out!

I used a 3.5' x 8" cylinder to lift the running gear and it worked fine. It's a little over-rated for what you need, but a larger diameter cylinder means it moves slower, so it is not so touchy when you use it.
Let me know if you need any parts, as it is on the list of things to go down the road if I ever get time. I had just installed new clutches a few months prior to the frame cracking, and I decided it was time for an upgrade. It's not too far from Bryan, Texas.

It was bent / ripped away on the shredder side. Cylinder stroke internal must be to long?
No, that would indicate one of two things: Either the cylinder is too SHORT, or someone backed the mower into heavy brush, hit something immoveable like a stump or boulder, and kept shoving until the wheels folded up and ripped the cylinder loose.

I experienced something similar last weekend with my little Bush Hog. Pushed it back into some heavy brush, and the wheel hit a stump. Fortunately the hydraulic mount on the mower side is on a pivot, and allowed the wheels to fold up without damaging anything.
