Moldboard plow hook-up

Are old pull-type trailer plows supposed to be hooked to the drawbar with a twisted clevis? I've always used a JD 2 bottom I have and think someone put a sleeve/pin hook-up on it. I'm working on an Oliver 100 plowmaster 2 bottom and I think it is supposed to use a clevis to hook to drawbar? Same thing on a 3 bottom IH I got. Just wanted to see how its supposed to be hooked up, in process of getting a manual for the Oliver.
Also does the manual tell how to properly adjust the plow?? I've wanted to learn how to adjust the plow the right way, or does anyone know a website that explains it, draft, deep, ect.
Thanks
Ryan

The Ollies I have have a spring loaded grab hitch that grabs a twisted clevis. If you defeat that spring loaded hitch, it loses the rock protection.

Unless it has a trip back beam it will always use a clevice of some type, twisted or otherwise made with a loop to pull from. Sounds like your John Deere has been modified to get rid of the safty release and with that gone if you would catch a heavy root or rock you could roll the tractor over backward on top of you.

There was an excellent article in a recent issue of Hart Parr Oliver Collector magazine about setting up that Oliver 100. Don't remember exactly when it was,but within the last 8-9 months I'd say. Maybe if you go to hartparroliver.org you could get the back issue.

I found an operator's manual at a Steam & Gas show for my #8 Little Genius trailer plow. I got it at one of those displays that have hundreds of manuals about nearly every machine.
I always thought I knew how to set plows but after reading that manual, I found a few things that really helped make that plow pull much easier.

Please DO NOT pull any trailer plow without that safety spring hitch if the plow has solid mounted moldboards. If you hit a rock or big root, your tractor can rear up on you very quickly or you will break a valuable and hard to replace moldboard.

No rocks you say??? That's what my friend told me last year when I helped him plow. I found the only rock in that field, I guess.

Most of the old #8 IHC plows and Others I fooled with before going the Snap coupler route with AC plows had a quick release hitch which required a twisted clevis to hook to the tractor drawbar.Boy,what a surprise the first time the old #8 tripped and I had the trip /lift rope tied solidly to the seat back. just about tore the seat off the old CC Case and dumped me off the back of the tractor at the same time.Farming rocky ground is an adventure. BTDT for many years.

The Plowmaster 100 that I have came with a strait clevis that [u:3796612ee2]bolts[/u:3796612ee2] to the drawbar the one I have is a good plowing plow but I like the 2 bottem fast hitch on the supper C better
Larry (wishing it was dry enough to be plowing, and there is more rain forcast for tomorrow)
