Seeing you guys post about plowing makes me jealous. I miss the smell of the dirt turning. Reminded me of a story when I was a youngster still on the farm. This would have been in the mid to late 70's, on Dad's dairy and tobacco farm in northeast KY.

Dad had two plows, a JD 3X16 mounted and a 4X16 semi mounted. Every year it was a bit of a donnybrook to see which one of us would get hooked up to the 4 bottom first, as this obviously meant the 3 bottom was left for the other guy, and pulling four was of course so much more impressive. Dad had a 770 diesel and I had a 730 gas that I bought used as a junior in high school.

One year he didn't seem to be in a hurry to get the 4 bottom on his 770, so of course I hooked 'er up to my 730 and away I went.

THIRD gear as I remember, really making her work. Awhile later, here comes Dad, as this was one of the few times we were working the same field. Drops the plows in the ground, FOURTH gear, catches up with me in the furrow and is laughing hysterically. This is Kentucky tobacco ground with relatively short fields so most all plowing is done by plowing out the length of the field, picking up the plow as deadheading, or "sliding back" and going again. I would let him pass me as we were sliding back so about every second or third round I would have to let him pass me again on the deadhead and it would start all over again.

Good lesson for the kid that I've never forgotten, while something may look more impressive, don't be fooled. Look at the end result and see who is more impressive.
I hope you have enjoyed this story as much as I have enjoyed remembering it and thinking of Dad. He passed away in 2014. Great man.

I thought that the 5-18's might be a bit much for the 930 both traction and power wise but was very
pleasantly surprised on both scores.

buzz saw I have simular memories with gas 400 with 3-16s and a 930D with 5-16s.This was early 70 s. My Dad died
Sept. 2014. He was 77. RB

I remember when my brother Bert and I were just kids. Dad had a 300 round nose. Bert and I bought another 300 round nose that spring for $375.00 from hogs we had raised and sold. This particular day was the day of our Great Grandfathers funeral. Bert and I stayed home to plow. We had Dads 10 year old 300 pulling a 3 bottom pull type plow and man was it getting a work out. Bert and I thought there has got to be a better way so we put our 300 in front of Dads and ran a log chain between the two tractors. Man did we plow up a storm the day.
Dad just scratched his head wondering how we got so much plowing done when he got back home, we never told him nor did we leave any evidence as to what went on. Dad and Bert are both gone now. Bert left in 03 and Dad in 08. I still have both of the 300-----wish I had the plow yet too.

Hi Loren! Awesome pic! I hope you are well! I am surprised you can even be out plowing on the wet ground. We have had so much rain down here I can barely get my mowers on lawns to vacuum up leaves. I got the mower stuck on one Friday! Since late July it seems it rains every other day!

I can see you smiling getting the "930" out to strut her stuff!. Looks like she is very healthy Loren, and wont quit! Great pic Loren.

Hey Greg, good to hear from you. The field in the pic is on limestone ledge so it is well drained and the rock isn't far down.
I have some slow spots where I mow grass also. Made some nasty ruts with my Kubota 4wd the last time I mowed.
I am going to rebuild the engine in the 770 this winter. She was pretty tierd and hard to start.
Loren
