mounting winch on trailer

I bought a 12000 lbs winch to mount on my gooseneck trailer wanting some tips on mounting it do I put it in the center of trailer or off to one side and what do I mount it to? thanks Jason

Mine is mounted in high in the front center. That gives me a good pull for dead equipment.
Also - I mounted it with a 2" receiver so I can remove it so it don't sprout legs when not in use.

Jim is spot on about the center mount (to cut down on the steering whatever you're hauling aboard, dead or alive) and the receiver hitch mount for both security and flexibility. That way, you can mount it to the receiver on the truck to pull someting out of the weeds, and then hitch up to drag it onto the trailer.

Height is up to you and depends some on how much winching you plan to do. You'll generally want it high enough not to wear on the edge between the deck and any dovetail you might have, though that's not terribly critical as a wear point. It's a long length to cover. The wear wouldn't be that bad, but you could, if you want, cut out some small pipe and weld it to the center of that edge, to smooth it out.

You might want to consider mounting a receiver, through a 1/4" or 3/8" steel plate welded between any cross-pieces between the frame uprights.

This is how I mounted mine but it isn't electric it hyd.

Nice mounting and enclosing your hydraulic winch. Its the little touches that make things have that quality feel and touch. You did it with the diamond plate!
