Moving a dead skid steer

Jim, have the operators manual, service and parts manual and also operators and service for the Onan engine.
Turns out old skid steers are not like old tractors. I spent 3 hours trying to find a set of points and condenser for it with no luck. Cleaned and adjusted what is in there but now need to free up the choke linkage. All my gas cans are empty or I would have put a bit down the carb and cranked her over and see what she did. Tomorrow is another day (cold day, but another).

@thdrduck is the onan a B43G by chance? If so points can be purchased from Deere, a 318 lawn tractor used that engine, if nothing else have a look at a deere parts diagram, may be the same points

If you're searching by "Gehl 3000 points" you probably won't find anything. Figure out what engine you have and search by that. Worst case, hit up the Smokstak site. They know of smaller vendors that deal in specialty parts.

You didn't say if it slid or rolled?

Thanks for all the great advice (I really love this forum, everyone is willing to help). I posted this same question on a skid steer forum and so far have had over 40 views and not one answer.
I decided to have my local guy with a car rescue truck haul it for me. He used the winch to drag it onto the flatbed and we used my little Alis as an anchor to get it off. Not perfect but it worked and didn't make a mess (plus it was about 10 deg out). Now it's in the shed and I can start messing with it. Thanks again folks.

I was looking at Onan. The model is NHCV and it seems that there are no new parts available (maybe new old stock pistons and such). Even going through Jacks Small Engine I get no results for anything. I have found listings for points but "out of stock" with no restock date. I see why it's a common practice to re-power these things. It's only been days of ownership so really don't know what I will do. I do know I won't spend $3500 on a re-power kit. Maybe a clone? She is really in good shape but....

Looks to me like the breaker points are possibly Onan# 160-1183, IF so there's lots of sources including Amazon.

Are you aware that Cummins has owned Onan for over 30 years?

Have you checked with a Cummins dealer to see what $$$ parts may still be available OEM?

Also, if that's the correct number, Deere has them, as well.

Most I see moved dead are just lifted with a bigger forklift and set where they are wanted to work on or in a shop to work on. I've even seen the set on trucks to haul with a fork lift had some loaded that way once where they were dead. Or would not start in the cold.

that is the set I was thinking of, there is another odd set set, I cant remember what was different between them though, I have that set on my 318 mower and we had the other set on a welder that later got transplanted to our wood splitter, I will try to remember what they were and where I found them, I think it may be the same model as the OP has but its been a few years.
