Hi, I recently purchased a newer used tractor and the pto rpm is 1005. My older tractors pto rpm's are 540. My question is how do you tell on used mowers what rpm they should run at???
I called the manufacturer of my mower and its designed omly to run at 540. My concern is if I purchased a mower from an auction, how will I know if it will work with my 1005 rpm tractor.

Unless you got a behemouth of a tractor, it should be able to have a 540 pto shaft.

If not, 1000 rpm is a 21 spline, either 1 3/8" diametor (same diameter as a 540 shaft), or for a really big behemouth, it'll be bigger yet (maybe 1 1/2"??) 540 is a 1 3/8" 6 spline shaft.

Post back what you've got and someone will know if it should have a 540 as well.

What kind of tractor is that. It should also have the 540 on it.

The PTO shafts are different between the 540 RPM and the 1100 RPM. The 540 RPM PTO shaft is a six splined, while the 1100 RPM PTO has 21 splines.

Hi, The tractor is a case 1030. The manual that came with it states it's 1005 rpm pto. The shaft size is the same as my farmal M ?????
