MT clutch adjustment

Got a 49 MT that the transmission seems to be slipping some. If I put in fourth gear and let clutch out it seems to grab but if you sleep up the throttle it seems like engine revs and then slowly speeds up. Not real familiar with the vertical 2 cylinders and not real sure where to start. The clutch make no strange noises, shifts in and out of gear easy but the clutch doesn't grab until pedal is almost all the way out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Take a look at the parts diagram below.

Note the hex nut (Key 5) and the cam (Key 8).

Take a look at the photo below of "BW" our 54 Model 40T.

Reviewed the [b:654c4848f0]John Deere Model "M" Tractors Service Manual SM2001[/b:654c4848f0] under the [i:654c4848f0]CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT[/i:654c4848f0] topic on page 120-15-6.

"[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]Adjust clutch to have approximately 1-1/2 inches free travel at pedal pad. To adjust, loosen jam nut on adjusting cam. Turn adjusting cam counter-clockwise to increase pedal free travel. When the 1-1/2 inch free travel has been obtained, hold adjusting cam in position and tighten jam nut securely.[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]"

Hope this helps.
