Here are a few pics I snapped today of the MTA in hopes that somebody can better identify it. Owner said the seller told him it was a1958???

Yes, it's a SMTA. The year 1958 saw the changeover from the 450 to the 560. That tractor in your pics would be a '55. Always thought they started with a much higher serial number than that, though. Could be one they kept around one of the factories. Saw a 300 or 400, years ago on eBay, that was ser# 2 or 3. It was one that was retained at the Farmall plant for light duty or snow removal. Maybe DR EVIL would have some input on that.

and i should have said if its an original TA tractor there is nothing to look up as it is ONLY A 1954 no other year. this is the easiest tractor to tell the year of because it was not even made for a full year.

Without seeing tractor to read dates or cast numbers it looks to be Mostly a SMTA. Can't make out numbers in the one picture for sure. Is that a picture of the engine serial number? If so and the first three numbers are 124 it would be a may of 54 built tractor. Center housing or serial number plate doesn't fit though. SMTA serial numbers started at 60001. On the right side of the center housing just before it spreads for flywheel opening. is a casting number. Will have six numbers and a R1. If it has a 2 after the R it's probably from a 400 or 450. Hard to make out sometimes but on left side of center housing at the general linkage level area is a date code. If what i said about engine serial is correct It should have a date code probably before may of 54 ending in a Z. If a A or higher a 400 or 450 housing.

I'd like to see a side shot from a little distance to see how far the gas tank is from the steering support post.

Going by the size of the serial numbers, if I was rolling the dice I would guess the serial number is from a 56 or early 57 450. Depending on what model of 450 it came from as to year. Picture of SMTA serial.

Well if that is the power steering pump, which I thought it was, it obviously does not work. Guess we will have to take the hood off to see why.

this p. s. set up is not from a SM TA, it came out with the 400 tractors. also those water pump drive bolts are not correct. someone stuck just bolts in there. so i am thinking. this tractor has been pieced together from other tractors.as mr. slater says the #'s dont seam right.
i also would gamble and say its not original.
