Hello

We are in peak mud season here at my
house, wondering what people use for
boots. I bought some Muck Boots a couple
years ago, seems like they started to fall
apart way too soon for the $125 I paid for
them. What do you use? Just wondering
what people use for an insulated boot that
keeps your feet dry that lasts awhile.

Thanks

I?m on the 4th winter with my muck boots, granted they now are shot the bend at the top of the toes is busted through the last 2 months, but they have lasted a long time in tough Minnesota winters. Mine were the grey ones, I have some ankle high black ones I?ve worn for 2 years now for going to town, they have held up well too.

My understanding is the original owners of Muck sold it off, and are now making good boots under their new name again, it starts with a D if I remember right?

Whatever's cheap. Cow manure and cracking in cold weather takes its toll. The wife bought me a pair of Mucks, but they rotted out too. I don't know that they lasted long enough vs the cheap ones to make them worth the money.

I wear muck boots everyday from October to June in MN mud, manure, and snow. I buy them online, usually eBay, for around $100. I get two years of use out of a pair, and to me, they are worth it. I hate wet feet or cold feet. With muck boots I have neither.

At freezing or below, I put on black army packs (mickey mouse boots) they have never let my feet get cold. I get 15 years of winter wear out of them. 5 buckle over Red Wings for wet warmer. Jim

I only wear insulated ones on the coldest days (near 0F) or when I plan on walking in deep snow all day. the rest of the time I just have 2 buckle rubber slip overs that pull on over regular work boots. Those only run around $50 a pair.

I've had very good luck with Baffin Ice Bear boots. They are polyurethane, so the flex very well, and last a long time without cracking. I use them at work for when we cut trees in winter, wallowing around in the snow. They have a safety toe which we are required to have, and they are composite so they don't make your feet cold like steel toe. They have a pretty aggressive tread that seems to grip well on snow and ice or mud. The only thing I don't like about them is that the top is belled out so that you can tuck your pant legs in them. That's fine, probably most people like that in a pair of boots. I don't care for it because I pull my pant legs over my boots to keep sawdust out of them, so I don't have a boot full of sawdust. I just have to put a fold in the upper part of the boot though so I can pull my pant legs over them, not a big deal.

These are what I use they are light and fit in a stirrup nice they have a steel shank so your feet don?t hurt even after wearing them for a 10 hour day in the shop or a 14 hour day in the saddle I?ve had these 3 years I think they will go at least one more before needing rebuilt . Before this I had whites cowboy packs I didn?t get them again because they are so heavy and they don?t fit in a stirrup and no spur ridge I had them rebuilt the second year after I had them and that was the only time in 15 years and the first time was do to a defect whites and kennetrc both have a one year warranty. I?ll never go back to whites again though for pacs . I have been wearing these kennetrc since the end of September pushing cows out of the high country and I?m still wearing them in April It?s been a long winter

Xtratuf boots. last way longer than any I know of. Very comfortable, although I always put in my own insoles in all boots and shoes. They don't fall apart at the seams like many others do. Used on commercial fishing boats. Grippy tread. Insulated or non.

I just went to the Xtratuf website, and wow, they have all kinds of new styles now! The 15" Legacy boot is the original model and the one I know is good. I would assume all their boots are well made and durable, but haven't tried any other models.
