Multimeter / Audio Output

I have a tuner/amplifier that works intermitently. How can I use a multimeter to verify that I am getting audio output to the speakers? Can I use the multimeter to check the speakers? Thanks, Oli

Replace the speakers with a 4 ohm, 8 ohm,or 16 ohm resistor, which ever is needed,usually 16 these days, and measure across it with AC voltmeter. I= E divided by R. Watts equal IxE.
Biggest problems with amplifiers is some one turned up the volume when the speakers were not connected and burned out the transistors.
