Murphy Safety Switch ??

I have a Murphy water temp gage/switch which came on a 50A with a 6-3 Power Block. I replaced it with a regular gage. The Tractor is long gone, bad move, but I saw the gage/switch the other day. How were they supposed to work? Did it shut down the engine if it overheated or just show temp. like others? There were no other wires or connections when I got it, just the coupling to the water pipe. Intresting gage and I have not seen another. Thanks

Yes, the Murphy gauge would shut down the engine if high temp was reached. Another Murphy gauge was for oil pressure. It had to be "set" to start the engine since there's 0 pressure then. The set button lifted the needle off of the terminal for starting. As the pressure built up, the tiny lever holding the needle dropped away. Thus the engine would be shut down if the pressure neared 0. They were used on irrigation rigs and other applications where an engine would be running unattended. Expensive little cusses too!!

Does anyone have an intrest in this gage? I would sell it reasonable if someone could use it.
Better than just letting it lay around. Any ballpark price ideas. Thanks
