I'm finally getting a chance to do the head gasket on my MD that sat outside for about 10-12 years. My problem is the left rear wheel is locked up. So is the M&W. My question: is the axle locked up because of the M&W? It(axle) has a tiny bit of movement after bringing it up to my garage. I used my bobcat to lift the left side up while bringing it up so I wouldn't make things worse. If I remember right, I drained a little water out of the finals once before a very long time ago, but I can't see that being the problem. Does anyone have an exploded view of the M&W and the left axle/housing. I've never pulled apart an M&W before, so I don't want to go in blind. I've always had a problem with the M&W getting tight on me if it sat long enough. I could disengage it, but it still had full power to the wheels. It took some time messing with it while running it to free it up, and even then it never would FULLY release. I'm thinking it wasn't adjusted right from the get go. Any input would be appreciated. Oh, and a good head gasket set recommendation would be great too. This is my baby, and I'm ashamed that it got this bad, but due to my health and money getting tight I couldn't help it.

Thanks,
Doug

I'm in the process of rebuilding a MD. I'm adding a M&W. JENSALES has a great manual on the M&W clutch with exploded parts view and parts list. I purchased the PDF version for $18 & some change. The name of the manual is Farmall M Tractor Accessories Supplement Operators Manual (w/ Kits). I have a question posted on here too about the inner spring. If you tear into yours would you measure that spring and post a picture. Mine is missing.

Thanks.

I have an MW clutch on my SuperM. It is not hard to dismantle.Since it is stuck,it probably rusted inside. Takeing apart will be necessary to get it cleaned and freed up.Remove the cover. Remove the center nut. Slide the adjusting cam and plate off.Remove the cam first. Becareful to not loose the 1/4" balls inside. The clutch plates are there.Remove them from inside the drum.BTW,I am thinking of removeing and selling the clutch. I also have 'most' of a second one for parts. What's it worth? Anyone interested?

Most times the M&W will lock the clutch discs from disengaging after sitting. With them engaged the tractor would act roll just like a regular tractor without. Probably the brake stuck if not ice. Tractor should roll in neutral either way the clutch position with the M&W.

That's what I thought too, no matter the clutch position it should roll. The reason I asked was because the M&W sits right on the outside of the brake
cover and is tied in thru the brake somehow. At least I think it is anyway. So if the M&W is stuck, most likely the brake is too, causing it to lock up. And I know it's not ice, cause I noticed it late summer when I was getting ready to bring it up to work on.

NOPE, it is all inside a special brake drum. If the band is free it should roll.

Only exception might be if the MW internal bearings are froze up but the cover retains the cam so removing the cover would show that also.

You may have to pull the cover if you think it is in the MW but it is really no different than pulling a brake cover.
