My 9N

Well I want to restore my 9N and I guess the year of my tractor is a 1940...Someone who had it before me changed the original rear whl out and put on a newer one. Also it was painted like a red belly? What I"m asking is does it really matter what color you paint? I was told that smooth axles were revered by collectors but have yet to see anyone come along and say anything about mine??

It looks like someone changed the front wheels and hubs also. I like the lighter Ford gray and red belly paint scheme because the dark gray gets really hot out in the sun. I got my 1st Ford back in December and have been working on it. It's a '46 2N...finished brakes and rear seals last week. New rear fenders came yesterday. He's almost ready to go.

Just looks like a smooth axle and a 28" hat rim and center to me.

Looks like you've got a nice one to work with. Color doesn't matter a bit to the tractor, paint it any color that suits you (Hah! beat you to it, Dell!).

My '50 8N was blue and grey when I got it, I went back with the "original" red and grey.

You'll find John Smith's excellent site very helpful in figuring out exactly what you have and what changed year to year (including paint).

Yep looks just like my 1940 9n.
Even down to the smooth rear hubs and replaced front hubs and missing front grill. The alternator looks the same too.

Don't feel bad, my '46 2N is a "redbelly" also. It doesn't bother me too much although there is a guy on Youtube who is quite preterbed about it. I told him repainting it was waaay down on my list of priorities but he was welcome to come and do it for me if it would make him feel better.
