My compressor motor

I have a single cylinder gas motor to run my air compressor. The compressor sat for a few months It failed to start. I found the float needle valve rubber tip stuck to the seat. I freeded it up, and it ran fine, but had the same problem next time I started the motor. what would make the float needle valve to stick? Stan

Probably getting softened by the methanol is todays gas. Maybe you can find some 100% gas. That or change to a newer made needle that is compatible.

shut the gas off and let it run till the carb. is emty Problem solved till you get a new needle. Roy from northwest Iowa.

Methanol is not (now) in gasoline AS far as I can assess. Ethanol is and it can have an affect after a while, but Methanol just eats things. It was tried in the 80s in CA, and Colorado. I repaired 20 Hondas and several others with ruined plastic and rubber components. Jim

When ethanol gas came to my area I started having problems with float valves in my old tractors and small engines. A dose of Marvel or Essentialube in the gas has done the trick for me. In my case it’s less hassle than stocking e free gas.

Oops, I know better than that. Methanol is used at the race track, ethanol at the gas pump.
