My New Find

I saw this little VAC on Craigs List and had to go have a look. It started instantly, idled smooth and had tight steering. The tin is excellent for a 46 model too. It has a little hiccup when you give it gas quick but I wasn't put off by that. I'm going down to pick it up this weekend. I didn't think $800 was to much for a tractor this straight.

Very nice tractor for the price. It must be newer than a 1946 model or at least the rear half is. It has an eagle hitch and an upgraded seat. I think it has to be a 1950 model or newer?

I think maybe the dash was changed! That's the later hyd pump, it's got the step that I've only seen on later models, the seat and Eagle...who knows. Those aren't EH lift arms either.

(quoted from post at 07:55:38 03/27/14) yes like I said above it has had upgrades and changes but the serial number is for a 46

Unfortunately these aren't just a few small changes. The torque tube, transmission case and rear end housing are all special to post 49 Eagle Hitch tractors as is the block and many other small things such as the throttle rod guide and exhaust manifold. My guess is somebody had a 1950 VAC missing a tag and threw on what they could find. Everything on your tractor points to being a late 49 early 50 tractor by the 2 bolt lower draft arm mounts and the lack of a hydraulic filter. I have 3 1950 VAC's and yours is a twin to my first one in the series.

The last 7th digit on the tag is hard to see in the picture but is another 5. I am never to concerned about the originality of tractors but the functionality. It is a good running good operating little machine that looks pretty good to me, and I thought the price was pretty fair, so I'm satisfied with that.
