mystery skid steer.

I have a skid steer of unknown origin. It has a Lull placard that indicates it is a L1300. Not sure about the 3 cylinder diesel but it looks like a Perkins. It looks like pictures of Mahto skid steers I've seen. I can find no reference anywhere to Lull skid steers.
Anyway after some slow idling around picking up some roots on a clearing site I shut it down. I have been unable to get it restarted. I thought the starter was spinning too slow so I had it reworked. New battery and cables. No joy. Replaced fuel filter which was corroded and way overdue for a change and primed it up but no ignition. It has always required a shot of ether to get going but even with that and the push and hold glow plugs only minimal detonation. There is fuel at the injectors but not what looks nominal to me. air filter and intake channel is clear. I don't hear the solenoid clicking on switch on at the inj. pump. Also have noticed a loss of power when hot and a lot of black exhaust smoke lately.
My limited diesel troubleshooting is exhausted. Anybody got any ideas?

I don't think so. The fuel line runs straight into fuel filter from the fuel overhead tank and there is no line filter from there to the pump. Somebody has suggested there may be a soot build up in the horizontal exhaust if it has been running a lot of black smoke. That could retard the starter and prevent detonation. I'm gonna check that today. Thanks

"A lot of black smoke", indicates there is either over fueling or restricted air intake. Check for very dirty air filter, wasp nests in intake line before the air filter or some other restriction.

May not be getting enough air for compression to run.
